Why are boys so confusing?

I just graduated highschool and me and this guy had been unofficially dating for about 6 months. He told me he loved me (for the first time) and we talked about spending the summer together. Then after a week of barely talking he broke up with me. He said he doesn't like me as much as he used to but he still loves me. Is this odd to anyone else?
